Penguins’ Murray leaves game vs. Flyers with lower-body injury
Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Matt Murray left Monday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers after colliding with forward Jakub Voracek.
After the game Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan revealed that Murray suffered a lower-body injury an will be evaluated on Tuesday.
https://twitter.com/penguins/status/935347442480025600
The incident occurred late in the second period when Voracek came streaking towards the net before falling feet first and making contact between Murray’s open legs.
Murray had to be helped off the ice by teammates and 22-year-old Tristan Jarry came in to take over for the Penguins’ No. 1 net minder. Jarry remained in the net when the teams returned for the third period.
Jarry has four games of NHL experience, three of which occurred this season. He has one win with a 2.57 goals-against average and .918 save percentage.
The Flyers were leading 2-1 at the time of the injury, but the Penguins rallied to win 5-4 in overtime.

Toronto FC captain Michael Bradley unfazed by boos vs. Crew
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The chorus of boos that greeted Michael Bradley’s every touch of the ball Tuesday night was water off the back of the Toronto FC captain.
"I’ve got bigger things to worry about that than whether a few people in Columbus don’t like me," Bradley said dryly after Toronto’s 0-0 tie with the Columbus Crew SC in Game 1 of the MLS Eastern Conference final Tuesday night.
Bradley, who is also the U.S. captain, and fellow U.S. international Jozy Altidore has been subject to boos at American away games ever since the failed U.S. World Cup qualifying campaign.
Altidore, who was suspended for Tuesday’s game, got the night off in terms of fan abuse.
Bradley was blunt when asked about the uncertainty of the Columbus team’s future, with the threat of a move to Austin, Texas, if a new stadium solution can’t be found.
"On one hand you feel for the small group of loyal supporters that they have, who have been here since the beginning, who continue to support the team and come out week after week," said Bradley, no stranger to playing at Mapfre Stadium in U.S. colours.
"On the other hand, you can’t deny the fact that things here have really fallen behind, in terms of the atmosphere of the stadium, the quality of the stadium, what it’s like to play here.
"I don’t know who’s at fault for that. There’s a lot going on and I get that. And like I said as an outsider, I don’t know what that falls on. But again the reality is just that as the league has continued to grow and grow — and this is not the only one, but this is one of a few markets that has not kept pace."
Many fans at the sold-out game Tuesday, Columbus’ biggest crowd of the year, carried signs saying " SaveOurCrew."

Short-handed TFC won’t take conservative approach vs. Crew
TORONTO – Can Toronto FC win without Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore?
It’s an important question TFC will attempt to answer when they take on the Columbus Crew in the first leg of their Eastern Conference final series.
Both Giovinco and Altidore are suspended for Tuesday’s tilt in Ohio, which means the Reds will be without their top two goal scorers for this crucial playoff match. They’ll be eligible to return for the second leg on Nov. 29 at BMO Field.
Giovinco (16 goals) and Altidore (15) accounted for 41.9 per cent of TFC’s league-leading 74 goals this season. Together, they combined for nine game-winning goals (five from Altidore), so there’s no question that this is a big loss for Toronto ahead of its biggest match of the year.
That being said, TFC have been in this situation before, as they had to make do without both Altidore and Giovinco for four games during the regular season, including a 5-0 home win over Columbus and a 4-0 road victory vs. Los Angeles.
“Obviously, we’d all prefer to have Seba and Jozy. That’s clear. But we’ve played a lot of games without them this year. We’ve won a lot of games without them this year,” captain Michael Bradley said.
If Columbus expects Toronto to take a more conservative approach in this first leg of this aggregate series because it’ll be missing its top star scorers, then it’s sorely mistaken.
“Nothing changes. The idea is to go to Columbus and come away with something. If we can win, great. If you get to the end of the game and we’re in a position to take a tie, then we’ll take that,” Bradley explained.
“We’re going for it. We’re going to be aggressive. We want to put the game on our terms, and that’s regardless of who we have available.”
Toronto coach Greg Vanney has touted his team’s depth all season, and Tuesday’s game will be another test of his bench’s strength and quality.
Canadian Tosaint Ricketts is expected to start up front for the Reds in Columbus, but how exactly Toronto will line up remains a mystery. They could go with just one striker, or push Spanish playmaker Victor Vazquez forward in a supporting role just behind Ricketts. Or they could leave Vazquez in midfield and slot Canadian Jonathan Osorio just behind Ricketts.
There are several personnel and tactical options that Toronto could pursue.
“In some ways, [the absence of Giovinco and Altidore] makes Columbus’ job of preparing for us in this game even harder, because I think while on one hand they’ll be excited that these guys aren’t going to play a part, we can do a lot of different things. We’ve got some variation, we can use a few different guys, we can play a few different ways,” Bradley offered.
Coach Vanney concurred: “We’ve used different options over the course of the year. It’s never been the same thing always. We do think that creates a bit of uncertainty [for Columbus].”
[radioclip id=3735625]
Ricketts only made nine starts during the 2017 campaign, but one of them came in that road win in L.A. on Sept. 16 when he scored a pair of goals. He also bagged a brace in the Reds’ very next game when both Altidore and Giovinco were again absent.
Ricketts has played and performed well in big games during his time in Toronto, scoring a pair of goals and tallying an assist during the club’s playoff run a year ago. He’s a different type of forward compared to Giovinco and Altidore, with his mobility, speed, acceleration and ability to put defenders on their heels among his best qualities.
The Canadian has made the most of limited playing time, as he ranked fifth in team scoring this season with seven goals in 22 appearances.
“He understands that there have been moments when Seba and Jozy are playing and playing well that opportunities are little bit limited. But he doesn’t let the faze him, and he’s determined that every time he gets a chance, he gives everything for the group and walks off the field with something to show for himself,” Bradley offered.
NOTES: Toronto topped the Eastern Conference and the overall MLS standings with a 20-5-9 record and a league-record 69 points. Columbus (16-12-6) finished fifth in the East, 15 points adrift of Toronto… The Crew did, however, hand TFC one of its five losses this season, earning a 2-1 home win on April 15. The Reds returned to Ohio the following month and beat the Crew 2-1, and then hammered Columbus 5-0 on May 26 in the final match of the campaign between the two sides… This Eastern Conference final marks the first playoff encounter between TFC and the Crew.

Monaco held at Amiens, gives PSG chance to go 6 points clear
PARIS — Defending champion Monaco dropped more points after drawing 1-1 at Amiens in the French League on Friday.
It could have been worse for second-place Monaco after forward Serge Gakpe gave promoted Amiens the lead in the 31st minute, but Montenegro forward Stevan Jovetic equalized midway through the second half after being set up by Brazil midfielder Fabinho.
The draw means that league leader Paris Saint-Germain can move six points clear at the top if it beats Nantes at home on Saturday.
Radamel Falcao returned to the Monaco side after a spell out with a hamstring injury, but the Colombia striker had a quiet game and rarely looked like adding to his league-leading 13 goals.
Monaco was thankful for Fabinho’s fine piece of skill down the right flank as he skipped past three players before cutting the ball back to Jovetic, who swept the ball inside the left post from just inside the penalty area.
In Friday’s other match, Lille beat Saint-Etienne 3-1 to give under-pressure coach Marcelo Bielsa a second straight win.
Saint-Etienne lost 5-0 at home to Lyon in the last round of games, leading to Spanish coach Oscar Garcia resigning after just five months in charge. Former Saint-Etienne midfielder Julien Sable replaced him and took charge of his first game.
Striker Nicolas Pepe made it three goals in two games when he put Lille ahead in the 20th minute.
After forward Jonathan Bamba equalized for the visitors with a penalty on the stroke of halftime, Brazilian midfielder Thiago Mendes made it 2-1 in the 71st and Spanish forward Ezequiel Ponce wrapped up the win late on.
Lille moved out of the relegation zone and up to 16th place, while Saint-Etienne is sixth ahead of this weekend’s games.

South African soccer president denies raping singer in 1993
The head organizer of the 2010 World Cup on Wednesday denied raping a singer and former South African ruling party lawmaker 24 years ago.
Danny Jordaan, the president of the South African Football Association and a Confederation of African Football executive committee member, released a statement through his lawyer to deny the allegations made by Jennifer Ferguson, who said in a series of online posts that she was raped by Jordaan at a hotel in South Africa in 1993.
Ferguson made the claim two weeks ago, using the hashtag MeToo, an online campaign denouncing sexual assault and harassment.
In the statement, Jordaan’s lawyer, Mamodupi Mohlala-Mulaudzi, said Jordaan denies raping Ferguson.
Jordaan was criticized in South Africa for taking so long to respond.
"Dr. Jordaan’s perceived silence in the face of such serious allegations is because of his empathy with the victims of gender-based violence," his lawyer said. "Dr. Jordaan has, however, after careful consideration decided to assert his innocence."
The lawyer said Ferguson’s allegations must be tested in court.
Ferguson said she didn’t report the rape because she was "too ashamed to go through the reporting procedure." She said she met the soccer official at a hotel in Jordaan’s hometown of Port Elizabeth, where she was performing. She claimed Jordaan followed her back to her room and raped her.
South African media have reported that other women have made allegations against Jordaan but the women haven’t been identified and no criminal charges have been laid.
The 66-year-old Jordaan, widely praised seven years ago for delivering a successful first World Cup in Africa, has had his reputation tarnished in recent years.
He has also been accused of involvement in a bribery scheme to win South Africa the hosting rights to the 2010 World Cup. Jordaan, and the South African government, have denied any bribery took place, contradicting an indictment by the U.S. Department of Justice that alleges former FIFA executives were bribed by South Africa’s bid team to vote for the country.
Ferguson, 55, was an anti-apartheid activist whose music reflected her activism. Both she and Jordaan were elected to be members of parliament in South Africa’s first democratic elections post-apartheid in 1994, the year after the alleged rape.
As parliamentary colleagues, Ferguson said she often came across Jordaan in subsequent years.
"He would never meet me in the eye," she said in an interview with the South African news website Daily Maverick. "Slide away as fast as possible."
Ferguson now lives in Sweden and has not indicated if she will press criminal charges against Jordaan.
"From a legal viewpoint, serious allegations of the kind made by Ms. Ferguson can only be ventilated in a court of law, where the rights of all parties are protected," Jordaan’s lawyer said.
Columbus takes advantage of short-handed NYCFC in first leg
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Artur started a three-goal outburst in the second half shortly after New York City FC went down a man and the Columbus Crew won the first leg of the Eastern Conference semifinals 4-1 on Tuesday night.
The Crew were clinging to a 1-0 lead when New York defender Alexander Callens was given a red card in the 52nd minute following a video review of his takedown of Justin Meram. Artur, on a feed from Federico Higuain, capped a four-on-two with his first goal of the season six minutes later. Meram scored his 14th in the 69th minute on a long ball that went under keeper Sean Johnson and Harrison Afful got his first goal in the third minute of stoppage time.
The second leg of the two-game aggregate series is Sunday in New York City. The fifth-seeded Crew had a 2-2 tie in the Bronx on the final day of the regular season.
Ola Kamara put the Crew on the board in the 6th minute with his 19th goal. Pedro Santos surprised unsuspecting defender Rodney Wallace, stealing the ball from behind. He then sent it into the middle of the box to Federico Higuain. Johnson made a diving save but the rebound went right to Kamara for the one-timer.
David Villa scored his 23rd goal for New York in the 78th minute.
